Location: Phia

Format: Look & Learn + Hands-On Mannequin Workshop

Class Description

Get ready to explore the art of shag cutting, where movement, texture, and creative freedom come together!

This class takes stylists through the evolution of shag-inspired haircuts, from soft shag layers to the bold, heavily textured wolf cut.

Bailey will demonstrate how to control layering, weight removal, shape, and texture to create different levels of intensity while maintaining a balanced, wearable haircut.

Through a live demonstration and hands-on mannequin workshop, stylists will learn how to customize shag techniques based on hair density, texture, and desired results. Participants will then create a true shag haircut, applying techniques that balance softness, movement, and personality.

Three Teaching Points

1. Understand the Shape. Control the Intensity.

● Explore the differences between soft shag layers, a traditional shag, and a wolf cut.

● Understand how layering, elevation, and weight distribution influence the overall silhouette.

● Learn how to adjust the intensity of a haircut without losing its shape or balance.

● Identify how hair density, texture, and length affect the finished result.

● Build confidence choosing the appropriate shag variation based on the guest's desired look and lifestyle.

2. Create Texture. Build Movement.

● Explore cutting techniques that create separation, movement, and lived-in texture.

● Understand how to remove weight intentionally without compromising the haircut's structure.

● Learn how to connect shorter interior and face-framing layers with the overall length.

● Explore razor-cutting and texturizing techniques for soft, customized results.

● Recognize how small changes in layering and weight removal can dramatically change the haircut's intensity.

3. Customize. Style. Bring It to Life.

● Learn how to create a true shag haircut that balances shape, texture, and movement.

● Adapt shag techniques to different hair types, densities, and styling preferences.

● Understand how styling influences the finished shape and personality of the haircut.

● Select products that enhance volume, definition, separation, and natural texture.

● Educate guests on how to recreate and maintain their shag at home.
